September Newsletter 2020

Published 17:32 on 15 Sep 2020

Welcome to the September newsletter.

It's been a strange year but it's wonderful to see green shoots appearing for the youngest members of our club

Congratulations to all the young GSC members who went to the RS Tera Nationals at the Weymouth & Portland Nationals Sailing Academy. And to all who took part in the Junior Regatta on Sept 12th. We'll be sending a separate newsletter on both of these shortly.

Finally, it's the annual call for members of the Committee. Please see the section below and have a think about joining in we'd really appreciate it.

In this newsletter you'll find; Racing and training, Use of club, AGM, Dates and Parking on the Gurnard to Cowes seafront.

Racing and training

The first races of the summer series have now been completed for all classes. We are running classes on alternate weekends until the 8th November with four races and one discard for each class. All events are socially distanced and follow the new rule of six guidance. Sailing Instructions and start times are available on the web site, and we will let continue to update members as we go.

Use of the club

Site 'amnesty' Boat sites are still in high demand currently. Being mindful of the current situation do you have a boat site you'd be willing to allow use of? If so, please email

Gurnard Marsh boat site Please note that this site is not owned by us. Users should therefore adhere to the specific rules of site (and be mindful that we are collectively responsible for behaviour).

Gates Please keep gates closed - we should not be encouraging the public into the club at present.

Boat washing. Please be mindful of social distancing when rinsing your boats. The space near the tap is cramped so it helps us all stick to the rules if you can 'wash and go' J

The 2020 AGM will be held on 18th October at 16.00. The Committee members will attend the club in person, with video for all other members, to accommodate numbers.

In anticipation of this, if you would like to put your name forward for a Committee role then please do. GSC is volunteer-run and entirely dependent on the help and time of its members so if you enjoy being a part of the community please consider if you could take part! Further details of the roles can be found at

If we are able to have a Christmas Do it will be on 12th December (depending on Government regulations at the time), so please pencil this in your diaries.

Parking on the Gurnard to Cowes seafront

There is a proposal to introduce parking charges all the way from Cowes to the Woodvale and surrounding area at £8.60 for 6-8 hours! As a community run club with no on-site parking, this is likely to have a negative impact on our members. If you wish to make any comments on the charges, you can email by the 18th September. If you would like further information on the grounds for objection, please see Rowan M-L's very helpful comment on the GSC Facebook page.
