Spring Series 1 - Sunday 14th April 2019
Published 10:25 on 16 Apr 2019
The first race of the Spring Series didn't feel much like Spring. A cold and gusty Easterly wind provided for an exciting sail for all participants. Robin Leather returned to the Shadow fleet but wasn't too rusty and sailed a solid race to win from Paul Bowen and Shaun Kellett. Martin Scott and Pete Bowen sailed good races but were too early at the start. The Fast Handicap also suffered from competitors being too keen at the start and was eventually won by Commodore Simon Davies ahead of fellow RS100 sailor Mark Harrison. The RS Aero sailed by Chris Hobday finished third. James Downer took victory in the Medium Handicap sailing his Finn. The battle for second down to fifth was very close. Ed Salter beating Martin Bean for the runner up spot. The Slow Handicap entries were increased by the participants of the RYA Assistant Instructors course. Freddie Ellis took victory from Phil Wright and Mike Peddar. Killian Boag was first RS Tera home ahead of Illy Taylor-Burns. Wednesday evening sees the first evening race of the year.
