Gurnard SC Training

Dinghy Training

Gurnard SC provides training to club members from complete beginner to intermediate racing level. The club is an RYA Recognised Training Centre for Dinghy Sailing, Powerboating and some Shorebased Theory Courses.

Adult Training

Beginner training will be provided by UKSA at the beginning of the season. This course will deliver the RYA Sailing Scheme Level 1 syllabus.

Training from RYA Level 2 up to RYA Start/Intermediate Racing will be delivered on Friday evenings from the beginning of May through to Mid-July.

Cadet Training

RYA Training is delivered for cadets in year 4 and above up to the age of 18.

Beginner training will be provided by UKSA at the beginning of the season. This course will deliver the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stages 1 & 2 syllabus.

Cadet training is provided on Thursday and Friday evenings from May to July. RYA Youth Start Sailing Stages 2-4 are taught on Thursday evenings, and race training (Start Racing and Intermediate Racing) are delivered on Friday evenings. Cadets must demonstrate competence at RYA Stage 2 to participate in Thursday training, or at RYA Stage 4 in order to participate in Friday Race training. There is an assessment day at the end of April which is designed to assist cadets in choosing the relevant course. For more details of cadet progression see the club Cadet Pathway document.

Boat Hire

Limited Laser Pico /RS Feva/RS Tera hire is available, but cadets are encouraged to obtain their own boats if possible, preferably a Laser Pico (older cadets) or RS Tera (younger cadets). Priority for hire will be given to cadets who have not previously hired club boats for cadet training and do not own a boat.

Powerboat Training

The club offers RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses and Safety Boat courses . Level 2( PB2) courses are open to non members. There are at least 2 PB2 courses each season delivered over two consecutive Saturdays. A Safety Boat course will also be scheduled over a weekend in the middle of the season.

Shorebased Courses

The club offers First Aid training and the Short Range Certificate VHF operators course (if there is demand).
