Gurnard Sailing Club to suspend all club activities (racing, training, socials) until the end of April
Following an extraordinary meeting of the GSC Committee, it has been confirmed the club will suspend all activities, with immediate effect, until the end of April.
This decision has not been taken lightly and is in response to the unfolding coronavirus pandemic. GSC understands it must play its part in halting the spread of Covid-19 in the UK.
The immediate consequences of the suspension are outlined in the action plan below. GSC would like to reassure its members that these decisions have been taken with the aim of keeping members, and the wider public, as safe as possible.
GSC CORONAVIRUS ACTION PLAN MARCH 2020
1. Indoor spaces
In line with Government guidance on social distancing there will be no access to indoor spaces, including the changing rooms. The whole building will remain locked and closed to everyone.
Power Boat courses, AI training and Dinghy Instructor courses will be cancelled and fees will be refunded.
3. Cadet training
No final decision regarding Cadet Training has been made at this point. However the Cadet Training briefing planned for 26th March will be cancelled.
Should it prove possible to go ahead with Cadet Training in May, the briefings will take place on the day training commences.
If cadet training cannot go ahead this season, then training fees already paid will be carried forward to the next year
All racing is suspended, until the end of April, when we will review the situation again
GSC members are still welcome to sail, but the changing rooms will be closed.
GSC asks that any members who do choose to sail please remain up to date with, and observe, the latest government guidelines regarding social distancing:
Remain at home if you, or any member of your family, has displayed one or more coronavirus symptoms in the last 14 days
Remain at home if are over the age of 70
Avoid physical contact with other people
Wash hands on a regular basis, or use hand sanitizer, avoid hand-to-face contact, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing and avoid touching any public surfaces unnecessarily.
The club committee will continue to monitor updates from the Government and the RYA, reviewing and updating the club's approach accordingly. For further information or if you have any questions, then please contact.
