JUNIOR REGATTA 2022

The weekend saw an excellent group of young sailors take to the waters of Gurnard Bay.

On Saturday, the more experienced ILCA, Pico and Tera sailors battled it out in fresh SW 18-20 knots. This created a great show for the spectators and lots of smiles on the faces of the sailors when they came back ashore.

The excellent race officer team of Mark Harrison and Liz Haines managed to get 5 races in with one discard.

Prize giving was held in the evening for the Saturday sailors followed by dinner and excellent evening entertainment.

SATURDAY RESULTS

ILCA 1st Gretel, 2nd Thomas, 3rd Maeve

Picos 1st Faith, 2nd Katherine, 3rd The Sheaths

Tera Pro 1st Ben, 2nd Oliver, 3rd Samuel

Tera Sport 1st Will, 2nd Cassius, 3rd Lottie

Spot prizes were also awarded to the following:

Maeve, as she recently stepped up to the ILCA class.

Lottie, having never sailed a Tera before she hired a club one and is clearly one to watch for the future.

Maia, who has come through cadets this year and showed amazing resilience in the racing.

SUNDAY

There was a quick turnaround from the normal GSC Sunday morning racing to get the regatta fleet out on the water. Wind was breezier than we had hoped at 15 - 17 knots so the decision was made to put all the sailors on the Tera Mini Sails, with mast floats.

On the committee boat, Luke and Gretel set some excellent courses and got 4 races in with one discard.

We had many of our instructors on safety boats helping and encouraging the sailors towards the back complete the courses. It was amazing to see them grow in confidence and the fleet get closer and closer every race.

1st place Sean

2nd place Ran

3rd place Jack

The John Davies Memorial Trophy for the most consistent sailor over the weekend went to Sean, who managed to win all his races. Spot prizes went to:

Daisy for carrying on despite a nose bleed in the first race.

Aether for completing all the races even though he had never raced before.

MANY THANKS to all those that took part and to all those that helped. The support from all the families was immense. Everyone pulled together to give these children an amazing opportunity. Massive thanks also to Spinlock for the amazing trophies. Spinlock also custom made our Tera mast floats and we certainly needed them this weekend. You are a great supporter of GSC and it is really appreciated.
