Volunteering

We are a volunteer club. All members are expected to undertake some duties if they can (average 3 per year). Those under 17 don't have to do duties but it's great if they choose to. There is no upper age limit provided you are capable.  Duties can be in the kitchen, bar or on the safety boats. See the details below:

The Bar

This is for over 18s only. This involves opening the bar, serving drinks and washing glasses. There are written instructions behind the bar, there are always other members around that can help and explain. Running the bar is good fun and will help you get to know other members.

The Kitchen

Kitchen volunteering is open to all over 16s, children aged 14-16 are welcome to help. There are normally 2 or 3 people allocated for each session. We try to provide hot meals for evening sessions and sandwiches/baguettes for lunch. The kitchen stocks a basic larder, we suggest you purchase food for your session and your expenses can be recovered. Please note that food and hygiene rules must be followed in the kitchen.

Important rules and points to note;

  • Food must be prepared on site
  • No ingredients containing nuts can be used (this includes ice creams)
  • Pricing Guidance. When pricing a meal, work out the cost of ingredients and divide by the number of meals that it will make (the cost per head). Double the 'cost per head' and add £1. Remember, the kitchen provides valuable revenue for the club and it's members, allowing subs to be kept affordable.
    • "So how much can I spend?" I hear you ask.  Simples, do the above in reverse.  If you want your meal to cost £5, take £1 off and then half what's left, therefore you can spend £2 per head.  This helps when deciding whether to shop at Aldi or M&S.
    • "How many should I cook for?"  A rough guide is 25 for a Sunday lunch.  35 for a Wednesday evening.  This is dynamic so please do ask advice.  'Guessing the numbers right' is less important if you buy food that can be frozen.
